I'll Fly Away

March 10th, 2026

Hola matones!

Tonight at 1am I'll be driving through the streets of Mexico City in a bus, beginning my journey to Puerto Rico 🇵🇷!  The CCM has been a blast, I've had tons of fun, learned just the slightest bit of spanish, and had constant experiences that affirmed to me that I am exactly where I'm supposed to be, and I made it here exactly when I was supposed to.

Shout out to District 10B and the amazing teachers we had, I'll miss almost all of yall (except the only person who scored higher than me in the language test 😔).

We went outside the compound last week! Visited the Mexico City temple, it's beautiful, and it was very nice to exist beyond the bounds of the CCM. A whole month with only one visit outside the walls is enough to make one lose their marbles.

The Lost Boys have been in full glory this week, every time I see them it brightens up my day. We found out the bigger one has a girlfriend and he already has a wedding date picked out (5/26/28), so we'll see how that goes. The "Dear John" would be rough.

We also dicovered the smaller one almost blew up his college when using a bunsen burner that had damaged tubes. He said the explosion would've been equivelant to over 1000 sticks of dyanmite. What a way to go!

Also also, turns out neither of them are from Utah. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

On Saturday night we had costco hotdogs and Elder Carter & Elder Vega decided to see who could eat the most. After much taunting, stress, discomfort, and tears, they tapped out at 5 each. 3000 calories each. They promptly headed over to the bathroom and threw up.

I was filming them throwing up when someone walked in, and I panicked since the CCM typically frowns on any fun. I thought I was done for.

UNTIL The Lost Boys walked in!!! They were confused about what was happening when they walked in on but took it in stride. I love them. They've only been on this earth a few weeks and they're thriving 💛

Please send emails, I love getting them! The dopamine hit is wonderful every time. Let's close out with a lil spiritual thought.

1 Peter 4:12-13 states: "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."

I'm almost positive that the next couple months are gonna be rough. I have no doubt that while I'm still learning the language I'll look like a idiot, I'll feel lonely and awkward, and I'll be constantly sweaty 😓

Life is full of trials. As we follow Jesus Christ and partake of His suffering, we are promised we will eventually be filled with exceeding joy. Do not think it strange when your life is trying. God has a perfect knowledge and is perfectly good, you will be okay.

Pronto estaré en Puerto Rico,

Élder Smith
